On April 16, 2019 it is 70 years of foundation of Kyivmetrobud – Management construction of Kyiv city. Kuzmin Pylyp Ivanovych was appointed as the first head of Kyivmetrobud. There were created construction and erection divisions as part of Kyivmetrobud: No.1 construction – head was Kyrylenko Konstantyn Ivanovych; No.2 construction – head was Omshanskyi Georgiy Oleksandrovych and service enterprises: transportation department, head was Russo Mykola Fedorovych; electro-mechanic-erecting-milling department – head was Vakulenko Mykola Artemovych; residential and municipal maintenance department – head was Kaplan Izrail Volfovych, and procurement department – head was Podpalyi Mykola Danylovych. Now Kyivmetrobud PJSC includes 2 building and erection departments, 3 tunnel brigades, manufacturing enterprises plant, motor depot, reconstruction and building department, over 2500 workers and engineering employees.
The first section of Kyiv metro from “Vokzalna” station to “Dnipro” station of Svytoshyn-Brovary line, the length is 5,2 km with 5 stations was put into operation on November 6, 1960. For successful building of the first phase metro construction the Kyivmetrobud team in 1960 hold Lenin medal, three workers hold the distinguished title – Hero of socialist labour and 297 persons were awarded with decorations and medals. So, Kyivmetrobud employees have passed the first serious examination for “excellent”: in extremely complex geotechnical conditions, when everything was “for the first time” they emerged victorious in fight with nature, they received practice in construction of civil engineering works and were ready for new examinations. Now length of Svyatoshyn-Brovary line is 23,8 km with 18 stations.
In the process of construction of Svyatoshyn-Brovary metro line the Kyivmetrobud team was headed by: Kuzmin P.I. (1949-1951), Chasovitin P.L. (1951-1953), Kholodnyi A.L. (1953-1954), Saprykin L.D. (1954-1971), Semenov А.V. (1971-1987) and Petrenko V.I. (1987 till now). Construction of the first phase of the second line of Kyiv metro began in 1970 and was finished on November 6, 1982: Kurenivka-Chervonoarmiysk direction, length is 15,6 km with 12 stations. During construction of this line section the Kyivmetrobud team was headed by Semenov A.V. The line construction was renewed on August 10, 2004 and is continued under the direction of Petrenko V.I. During this period the Kyivmetrobud team built 5,15 km line section from “Vasylkivska” station to “Vystavkovyi tsentr” station that includes four station complexes and construction of 2,4 km section and two stations is being carried out at the moment. Eventually length of Kurenivka-Chervonoarmiysk direction is 20,9 km with 18 stations.

In 1982 Kyivmetrobud team proceeded with construction of the third line: Syrets-Pechersk direction. Now length of this line is 23,9 km with 16 stations. The Kyivmetrobud team is headed by Petrenko V.I at this phase of construction. Since foundation of Kyivmetrobud the Kyivmetrobud team built and put into service three metro lines of 67,6 km total length with 52 stations.
In different years, additional exits from “Khreshchatyk” station to Horodetskoho st. and to Institutska st., the second transfer place from “Khreshchatyk” station to “Ploshcha Nezalezhnosti” station as well as the second exists from “Livoberezhna”, “Hydropark”, “Lisova” and “Darnytsia” stations were built.
Kyivmetrobud PJSC is able to complete complex engineer tasks in the process of construction of various buildings, and it builds the whole complex of metro facilities, mountain, railway, special tunnels and many other buildings of different purpose in Ukraine and in a number of post-soviet states:
        – Hydraulic tunnel in Dnipro-Donbas channel (length is 6,6 km, diameter is 5,5 m). Driving was carried out in complex hydrogeological conditions with special methods within 3,5 years involving up to 150 persons team;
        – Hydraulic tunnel in Don main channel (6,0 km, diameter is 6,0 m). Driving was carried out within 3,5 years by means of up to 150 persons team;
        – Novorossiysk petroleum-pipeline tunnel (length is 3,3 km, diameter is 5,6 m). Driving was carried out with blasting method within 2,5 years by means of up to 50 persons team;
        – Main municipal non-pressure sewage conduit (length is 9,0 km, diameter is 3,6 m) in Kyiv City. Driving was carried out by means of two tunneling shields within 4 years wit up to 100 persons team;
        – the 2-nd line of main municipal sewage conduit (length is 9,81 km, diameter is 3,6 m); – Water-pipe tunnels (length is 6,7 km, diameter is 2,5 m, 3,6 m) in Kyiv City;
        – Coastal sewage conduit (length is 1,5 km, diameter is 3,6 m) in Odesa City. Driving was performed within 2 years by means of up to 30 persons team; – Double-rail railway tunnel (length is 700 m) in Voronezh town. Driving was performed within 2 years by means of up to 50 persons team;
        – Hydraulic tunnels in Dnipro-Inhulets channel (length is 2,2 km, diameter is 6,0 m). Driving was performed within 2 years by means of up to 50 persons team;
        – One-rail tunnel in Idzhevan-Razdan railway line in Armenia (diameter is 8,5 m). Driving was performed with blasting method in rocky ground within 3 years by means of up to 70 persons team;
        – Sunk wells (diameter is 40 m) and inclining galleries (diameter is 9,0 m) in four Kryvyi Rig mining and processing enterprises;
        – Underground complex of Dnister pump-storage plant. Vertical, horizontal and inclined conduits up to 100 sq.m are driven by blasting method, drainage galleries are driven by mechanized complex in rocky ground;
        – Sewage conduit channels in Chernivtsi town; – Underpasses in Kyiv City;
        – Renewal of square in front of “Olimpiyskiy” with construction of shopping mall;
        – Renewal and technical re-equipment of No.5 solid waste landfill in Pidhirtsi village of Obukhiv district in Kyiv region;
        – Construction of the first phase of “Darnytsia” passenger station complex of South-West railway station;
        – Accommodation units for Kyivmetrobud employees to total area approximately 239 thous. sq. meters;
        – Renewal of railway terminals in Vinnytsya and Uzhhorod towns;
        – 8 hostels of total area 20660 sq. m;
        – Preschool institutions for 710 places;
        – 1072 studying places school;
        – 240 places summer camps.

Kyivmetrobud PJSC is to be first to introduce a new kind of underground development – exploration of great size spaces under complex hydrogeological conditions and in conditions of restrained urban overcrowding. Such facilities are built under Druzhba Narodiv boulevard and under Ploshcha Slavy square in Kyiv City.
In 2001 dedicating the 10-th anniversary of independence of Ukraine the central square of Ukraine – “Maidan Nezalezhnosti” was renewed for taking innovative building technology, all frameworks are made of cast reinforced concrete using reusable forms in totality with adding of plasticizing agents and chemical additives to concrete. Concrete conveying was carried out with concrete pumps. Adoption of this technology permitted fulfillment of building and assembling works under short term.
Furthermore, Kyivmetrobud specialists were involved for advice and erection of water conduits of hydroelectric stations in Egypt, of highway tunnels in Afghanistan, railways in Syria, metro and railway tunnels in India. In 1990 Kyivmetrobud carried out under contract irremovable railing in metro of Sofia City (Bulgaria).
In the process of building of Kyiv metro lines and tunnels of different purpose, Kyivmetrobud team in collaboration with and GPPI “Ukrmetrotunnelproject” and other research institutions, has developed and adopted to building of underground facilities a variety of progressive processes, new constructions, complex arrangement of mining operations, other achievements of technological advance, often firstly in practice of world and native construction of metro and tunnels:
– Deep lay column type transfer metro station made of precast concrete units;
– Deep lay column type “Zoloti Vorota” metro station with compound finishing;
– Intermediate hall of “Zoloti Vorota” metro station (erected by means of sinking method for 30 m depth in conditions of restrained high-rise);
– Transit of Herrenknecht tunneling system through practically ready “Vystavkovyi tsentr” station.
Now Kyivmetrobud PJSC  execute metro construction  in Kyiv and Kharkiv.

Steps multiplied by heroism

To build metro in Kyiv with its super-complex geology can only entity with engineer searching and technological development soldered together, due to workmen equipped with knowledge, practice and high technology.
“Kyivmetrobud” has had all of it. At first Kievers learned from Moscovites, the pioneers of metro. Then they moved on overcoming flowing rocks, underground streams, man-caused strata of the ancient city. The first tunnel boring shields of own design, change of expensive cast-iron tubbing of tunnels processing for concrete of own manufacture, implementation of scientific innovations, and of project engineers – all of it was tested and used in the process of building of underground tracks and stations. But the winning stroke for artful nature was made by him – workman driving machine, and sometimes working with shovel, hammer pick, rock breaker. Kyiv Metrobud became a school for thousands of people.

Kyivmetrobud is a rescuer of cities

Kyivmetrobud has gained absolute reliability of its brand for decades of work for the public good. This staff can make everything in the field of industrial and civil engineering. And not only. One can call it with full responsibility as a cities rescuer. And not only because the metro created by Kyivmetrobud protects from traffic standstill.
Comfort living, business activities of modern city require an invisible traffic of different materials: water, gas, electric power, different drains. Should be a block in one of these arteries – then the adjusted time of the city life shall not be met. Then they call Kyivmetrobud team – a mobile collective is always at call.
Participation in liquidation of human-made and technological disasters – it is one more row in reference list of Kyivmetrobud employees.
Radioactive Chernobyl shall keep in memory their dedicated work in tunnel under ruined reactor.
They took part in suspension of Kharkiv sewerage breakage.
They laid new lines for worn sewerage tracks of Kyiv sewer conduit.
They, Kyivmetrobud employees are main contractors during building of the main sewer conduit of the capital of Ukraine, Odesa, Chernivtsi and other cities. Life of great cities would be marred by grave clouds of imminent disasters without their work. They, Kyivmetrobud employees are rescuers of cities.

Man shall not live on metro alone…

Kyivmetrobud PJSC is an entity both unique and universal too. “We can do everything” – one can make the main slogan of this team. And not only within Ukrain. Tunnels in Voronezh and Novorossiysk (Russia), in Idzhevan-Razdan (Armenia) – everywhere the mark of Kyivmetrobud provides reliability, it serves for people for more than one year and it shall serve for a full due. It is counted on all of it.
Specialists of Kyivmetrobud were engaged for advisory services and erection of water pipes for Hydro-electric Power Stations in Egypt, of highway tunnels in Afghanistan, railways in Syria, they laid underground tracks in Bulgaria, they are working now in India.
“We can do everything!” – we repeat this expression once more walking renewed Maidan Nezalezhnosti square in Kyiv City, visiting new shopping centers under squares, admiring modern dwelling units. And when Dnipro pumped storage unit works in full force the great part of Kyivmetrobud employees’ energy shall move to its megawatts.
